Visa Information

All visitors to Australia are required to have a current passport and to obtain a visa before entering the country
(the only exception is for citizens of New Zealand for whom a visa is created automatically on entry to Australia).

For event participants, the right visa is a Business (Short Stay) visa, even if some tourism activities are planned for part of the stay in Australia.

There are two types of such a visa:

  • For participants from ETA eligible countries
Delegates from eligible countries can apply online for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) subclass 977 visa.
The eligible applicants do not need to go to an Australian mission overseas or fill in forms.
Electronic applications can be made on the Department of Immigration's ETA website, or through participating airlines and travel agents overseas.
The visa is issued electronically, with no label in a passport. You can find out more about ETA here.

  • For participants from other countries
Delegates from countries that are not eligible for ETA need to apply for a subclass 456 Business (Short Stay) Visitor visa, which is issued as a label into a passport. This visa can be applied for at Australian missions overseas.
There is an application form to fill in (Form 456) and a fee.

To facilitate the assessment process, the ICMB2005 conference organizers will submit the list of accepted and registered authors to the Department of Immigration (although visa issue cannot be guaranteed).
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT PARTICIPANTS APPLY FOR THEIR VISAS WELL IN ADVANCE OF ANTICIPATED TRAVEL
